A solvent that combines performance with sustainability

As producers of adjuvants and excipients for agricultural formulations, we are alert to the performance of formulations, productivity results in the field, and the production chain, using raw materials and providing solutions with less of an environmental impact. One of the latest solutions we have in our portfolio that contribute to addressing these issues is the SURFOM® CE 8434 solvent for liquid formulations.
SURFOM® CE 8434 is a high-performance, versatile solvent with a low level of phytotoxicity. Tested with more than a dozen active ingredients, including herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides, it has achieved good solubility results for different types of liquid formulations: Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC), Suspo-Emulsion (SE) and Emulsion in Water (EW).
EC formulations are generally simple to formulate when compared with other, more complex types, which ensures versatility for this type of formulation that represents a significant share of the agricultural chemicals market (approximately 31%). To be fully effective, it is essential that the active ingredient be solubilized in a suitable solvent with a package of well-established emulsifier surfactants. Only then can the formulation be diluted in the spray tank, forming a homogeneous, stable solution to be applied to the target organisms – insects, weeds, or fungi.
In addition to its versatility in solubilizing different active ingredients, SURFOM® CE 8434 presented a low level of phytotoxicity when submitted to application tests in Poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima), compared to other classes of solvent on the market, such as C8-C10 chain amides. When compared with other aromatic solvents, in addition to amides, SURFOM® CE 8434 has a better GHS profile, with no risks associated with irritations (dermal/cutaneous/oral/ocular) in the event of accidental contact, increasing formulation stability and performance and improving the eco-toxicological profile.
