Discover our Demulsifiers Webinar: The Ideal Formulations For The Most Versatile Field Conditions
On October 22ⁿᵈ, Indovinya hosted the webinar “Demulsifiers: The Ideal Formulations for the Most Versatile Field Conditions”, an insightful session designed for professionals aiming to deepen their technical expertise and explore practical solutions for emulsion separation challenges in the oil and gas industry.
During the event, our experts Pinn-Tsong Chiang and Luis Fornereto, both Senior Research Scientists, together with Jennifer Spicer, Commercial Manager at Indovinya, shared valuable knowledge on how strategic base selection can lead to more effective and consistent formulations across diverse operational environments.
Participants gained a deeper understanding of how production optimization contributes to improving efficiency, profitability, and overall performance in oil and gas operations.
Q&A – Technical Questions
Kemelix product was developed in the past decades with customer feedback in a customer-centric mindset, and were optimized for real-world challenges, including short residence times, high turbulence, and solids loading. The current Kemelix demulsifying intermediates withstands the challenge of time.
Indovinya acquired the product line and is committed to maintain the brand reputations. Combined with Ultroil and Surfonic product lines, we are offering is more comprehensive portfolio than ever. We would also like to work with customers to develop new demulsifiers to tackle specific challenges.
We offer comprehensive customer support focused on chemical quality and performance. Our team is available to help evaluate how our demulsifier products perform in your specific applications, ensuring they meet your operational needs.
We also have a strong track record of developing new solutions in response to customer challenges—so if you’re facing a unique issue, we’d love to hear about it.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to collaborate and support you every step of the way.
There are several factors that affect demulsifier performance, here we basically mentioned two: API gravity and BSW, but there are several other we could not cover in the webinar, such as presence of paraffin or asphaltenes. These molecules are polymeric structures present in the crude that may precipitate, increasing viscosity and hindering water drop from the oil phase. The best way to identify the ideal formulation for your challenge is really the bottle test. Of the products presented here, we could mention XXX and YYY as good potential bases to consider.
Finally, we have other product lines – which are not within the scope of this webinar – which can be used to disperse paraffin/asphaltene molecules and avoid their precipitation. These are known as Surfonic OFP, Surfonic OFA and Flowsolve series. We can gladly share more information about them later.
That depends on your process, really. One of the most important parameters overall is how dry the oil phase is after the treatment. Remember we need to get crude oil at least below 1% humidity for commercial specification. Other than that, everything has its importance – for example dosage is important because the less amount of product used, the more economical the operation will be, not to mention logistics and supply chain considerations. Interface is important because it defines how efficient the tri-phase separator will be, as a rugged interface will make the water cut more difficult – remember this is a physical separation of lower water phase and higher upper phase. Kinetics is important if you have restriction in the residence time in your separator. Sometimes onshore operations for example have more time for separation, so water drop speed is not as important.
