Tank mix adjuvants can be classified by their functionality into two major categories: activator and utility adjuvants.
Activator adjuvants generally modify properties of the spray mixture to help the pesticide penetrate or protect the target organism. The components in these adjuvants usually presents several properties that directly or indirectly enhance the active ingredient performance. The most typical activator adjuvants are wetting/spreading agents, stickers, humectants, emulsifiers, and emulsifiable oils.
Utility adjuvants may affect, handling, compatibility, foam, pH, droplet size and other characteristics critical to the performance of the spray tank These category include drift control agents, water conditioners, compatibility agents, antifoams and deposition aids among others.
